I heard this so many times from so many teachers ”Become present in the moment”.
I am in my physical body, so I am here and present, right? Not really. Even when we are “here” most of the time times our thoughts are not. We are thinking about something that happened in the past or thinking about something that will happen in the future. So what makes us truly present in the moment?
Try this game for 5 minutes:
Stop whatever you are doing and take a look around you. Become aware of your breathing. Observe your surroundings. Don’t just slide over them making quick and superficial mental notes but take time to notice everything in its details.
I am sitting in a school's hallway as I am writing this while my daughter is practicing her piano lesson. I have been here many times, sat on the not-so-comfortable metal chairs, yet I have never noticed the unusual shade of brown they are painted. Nor did I ever pay attention to the scratches on them. I have not noticed the patterns and texture of the wall, nor have I looked up to register the popcorn ceiling.
When you take a moment to truly become present, these small details start to be revealed to you, one after another. The more you look the more details you become aware of. So why is it good for you to know what color the chairs are, how scratched and used they are, or that there is a popcorn ceiling above your head?
Simply put, when you do, you become more alive, more vibrant and in flow with everything you are – your Higher Self. Creativity starts to bubble up in you. You start taking pleasure in the smallest of things like the sun cracking through the clouds, a bird drinking from a puddle, the steam covering your bathroom mirror. You start feeling good, and that is all that matters. 5 minutes. Anytime, anywhere.
